| I will talk about techniques AND I will show you a wide variety of pots and sculptural pieces--all fired in electric kilns. The focus of my 'word' charts will be on firing the kiln, although I will briefly cover glazes and glaze application. The ceramic work I will show will illustrate the creative ways potters are working with glazes and electric kilns to get exactly the effects they want. For example, in some cases they want to achieve a so-called 'reduction-fired' look. That is very feasible because in most cases that look is not due to reduction at all--rather it is due to the way the kiln is fired and cooled. But in other cases, these potters are looking for something quite different and have developed very specific techniques to achieve it. Let's start by looking at the work of 4 of those potters. |
