A Word about Caring for Stoneware Pottery

My stoneware pottery has been designed to give good service when cared for properly. The glazes I use are lead-free and the clay is certified non-toxic. The pots have been fired to over 2200 degrees F. to make them strong and non-absorbent. While stoneware stands up to very high temperatures, it needs to be heated or cooled slowly per the specific instructions below:

You may use the pottery in your microwave, but only if it contains food or water--never heat a stoneware pot in a microwave when it is empty. Always use hot pads to remove the pottery from a microwave.

When baking, place the baking dish in the oven while the oven is still cool. Heat the oven, the dish and the food you are cooking at the same time. Of course, here also, use hot pads to remove the baking dish from the oven.

When using a teapot (or a pitcher for hot fluids), warm the teapot first with warm or hot tap water -- then pour in the boiling water for your tea. This will avoid thermally shocking the teapot, but will also help keep your tea warm for a longer time.

Never use stoneware pottery on a stove burner or over an open flame. It will not stand up to the thermal shock from this type of use and will, more than likely, crack or break.

You may clean stoneware in your dishwasher or by hand. If it needs scrubbing a plastic scrubbing pad, rather than steel wool, is preferred.

Please use your pottery and enjoy it. Following these simple instructions will help assure that it lasts for a lifetime.
